Located in the Thiérache region, the history of Vervins spans over 2000 years. Called Verbinum by Romans, the town had a reknowned roman theatre. In 1598, Henri IV and Philippe II of Spain signed here the "Vervins Peace Agreement" which ended the Religious Wars. In 1815, Napoléon Bonaparte stopped overnight in this town when going to the battle of Waterloo.
In a great surrounding, La Tour du Roy is reknowed place for its historical value. In one of the towers of this enchanting castle, Henri de Navarre was recognised as King of France in 1589, therefore becoming Henri IV.
More recently, President Charles de Gaulle stayed in the hotel in 1956, as well as President François Mitterrand in 1983.
